The Verba Vitae: Latin Society club is initiated by Jane Jiang (myself), Anna Wei, and Maymay Liu. We aim to foster a community of language learning, engender an ambiance of humanities, and address the absence of clubs catering to humanities disciplines in our school community. Our ultimate goal is to create a vibrant space where students can explore the rich tapestry of Latin language and classical civilisations.
Our club is dedicated to not only teaching Latin through the “Learn to Read Latin” textbook, but also to immersing members in the fascinating world of ancient civilisations. Hosting club meetings every Friday afternoon, we will enjoy the spectacles of the ancient civilisations through activities and lectures dedicated to both the Latin language and its culture and history.

Plan for 2024-2025 School Year
In the following 31 weeks, students will learn to comprehend the Latin language from beginner’s level. We will use the “Learn to Read Latin” textbook and study up to Chapter VI. In our classes, reading and translation exercises will be thoughtfully integrated into the class time, alleviating any concerns students might have about additional workloads at home.
Throughout the course, we will also introduce eight different topics related to Roman culture once four weeks.
Week 4: Writing in Latin.
Week 8: Roman Domus.
Week 12: Roman Urban Life.
Week 16: Roman Roads.
Week 20: Roman Epic Poetry.
Week 22: The Aeneid.
Week 26: Romans and Barbarians.
Week 28: the Etruscans.
